Richard Birkefeld, born in Hanover in 1951, is a historian and political scientist. He worked, among other places, at the Institute of Architectural and Art History and the Historical Seminar of the University of Hanover, at the Historical Museum Hanover, and in adult education. He has published numerous texts on the history of Hanover and on cultural changes in the early twentieth century. Since 2003, he has written crime novels and short stories. His debut novel, “Wer übrig bleibt, hat recht,” co-written with Göran Hachmeister, received the German Crime Fiction Prize and the Friedrich Glauser Prize for Best Debut in 2003. His other works include “Der Ring der Niedersachsen,” “Ein Bier, ein Wein, ein Mord,” and “Ein Pils, ein Sekt, ein Todesfall.”
