Ivan Krastev, born in Bulgaria in 1965, is a political scientist and political adviser. He has chaired the Centre for Liberal Strategies in Sofia and served as a permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna. Krastev was a founding member of the European Council on Foreign Relations and served on the Board of Trustees of the International Crisis Group. In 2018–2019, he held the Henry A. Kissinger Chair in Foreign Policy and International Relations at the John W. Kluge Center of the Library of Congress. He received the Jean Améry Prize for European Essay Writing in 2020. His books include *After Europe*, *Democracy Disrupted* and *In Mistrust We Trust*; with Stephen Holmes, he co-authored *The Light That Failed*.
