Katrin Zipse was born in Stuttgart. She studied theatre studies and German philology at Freie Universität Berlin, worked in theatre for several years and was a radio editor. Her first young adult novel, »Glücksdrachenzeit«, received the Thaddäus Troll Prize. Zipse is the youngest of four siblings and has a twin brother.
