Hans-Werner Wahl is a psychologist who received his doctorate from Freie Universität Berlin in 1989. From 2006 to 2017, he headed the Department of Psychological Gerontology at Heidelberg University’s Institute of Psychology. He also worked as a senior professor and project leader at Heidelberg University’s Network for Research on Ageing. His research has focused on the interactions between ageing and technology, psychological adaptation in later life, subjective experiences of ageing, and age stereotypes. Wahl co-founded and co-edited the journal “European Journal of Ageing.” In 2009, he became the first German ageing researcher to receive the M. Powell Lawton Award of the Gerontological Society of America for his contributions to applied gerontology.
