Walter E. Richartz

Walter E. Richartz (1927–1980) was born in Hamburg and grew up in Munich. He studied natural sciences, earned a doctorate in chemistry, and taught in the United States for three years. He then spent 18 years conducting research for German industry before working as a freelance writer from 1979. His realistic, often satirical works included portrayals of scientific institutions and the everyday working lives of employees. His books were published by Diogenes Verlag. Richartz also worked as a translator, translating works by authors including Lewis Carroll, Raymond Chandler, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Dashiell Hammett, Patricia Highsmith, and Henry David Thoreau.
