John Tenniel

John Tenniel (1820–1914) was a British illustrator and caricaturist. He worked for the satirical magazine Punch, among other publications. He became known for his illustrations for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking-Glass (1871), some of which were colored later. One of his best-known cartoons is “Dropping the Pilot,” created on the occasion of the dismissal of German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck.
