Vitali Konstantinov (born in 1963 near Odesa, Ukraine) studied architecture, graphic art, painting and art history in Russia and Germany. From 2000 onward, he worked as a freelance illustrator, comic artist and author. His work includes nonfiction picture books, comics and illustrations for children and adults; his books have been published in more than 40 countries. Konstantinov has taught book illustration at universities and led illustration courses and workshops. His nonfiction comic debut, Es steht geschrieben, was nominated for the German Children’s and Young Adult Literature Prize. His nonfiction picture book Geniale Ohren: Eine kuriose Tiersammlung was named one of Germany’s Most Beautiful Books in 2024. Konstantinov has received further awards for his work.
