Verena Dolovai was born in Gmunden in 1975. She studied law as well as interpreting and translation studies at the University of Vienna and worked for many years as a lawyer alongside her writing. She has published numerous texts in literary journals and anthologies. Her debut novel, Dorf ohne Franz, was shortlisted for the 2024 Austrian Book Prize in the debut category and was nominated for the 2025 Austrian Book Prize France.
