Thomas Reschke

Thomas Reschke (born 1932 in Danzig) is a German literary translator. He studied Slavic studies at Humboldt University in Berlin and worked as an editor and lector for the East German publishers Kultur und Fortschritt and Volk und Welt from 1955 to 1990. From 1956 onward, he translated around 150 literary works from Russian into German, including works by Mikhail Bulgakov, Boris Pasternak, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, Maxim Gorky, Nikolai Gogol, and Bulat Okudzhava. His translation work earned him, among other honors, the Federal Cross of Merit in 2000 and the Translator’s Prize of the Foundation for Art and Culture of North Rhine-Westphalia in 2001.
