Rainer Marten (born 1928) is a German philosopher and professor emeritus of philosophy at the University of Freiburg. In the 1950s, he belonged to the circle of students around Martin Heidegger and later engaged critically with Heidegger’s philosophy and personality on several occasions. Marten published works on ancient and practical philosophy, philosophy of language, hermeneutics, phenomenology, and the art of living. His books include The Logos of Dialectics (1965), Human Death (1987), The Art of Thinking (1989), The Art of Living (1993), and Human Truth (2000). His final listed publication is Mein Zeitgeist. Philosophieren vor dem Ende des Lebens (2020).
