Eberhard Schockenhoff

Eberhard Schockenhoff (1953–2020) was a German theologian and professor of moral theology at the University of Freiburg. From 2001 to 2016, he was a member of the German National Ethics Council. From 2009, he was a full member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, and from 2010 a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. His work addressed, among other topics, bioethics, peace ethics, sexual ethics and reform questions within the Catholic Church. His major publications include “Grundlegung der Ethik” (2007), “Ethik des Lebens” (2009), “Kein Ende der Gewalt?” (2018) and “Frieden auf Erden?” (2019). His work on sexual ethics, “Die Kunst zu lieben,” was published posthumously in 2021.
