Monika Czernin, born in Klagenfurt in 1965, studied political science and philosophy in Vienna. She worked as a freelance journalist, filmmaker and author. Her books include *Gebrauchsanweisung für Wien*, *Ich habe zu kurz gelebt. Die Geschichte der Nora Gräfin Kinsky* and *Anna Sacher und ihr Hotel*. Her historical works focus on key figures and turning points in European history. In 2023, she received the Friedrich Schiedel Literature Prize for *Der Kaiser reist inkognito*, a book about Joseph II.
