Alexandra Przyrembel (b. 1965) is a historian of modern European history. After training at Rowohlt Verlag, she studied history and literary studies in Hamburg and at Cornell University. In 2001, she received her doctorate from Technische Universität Berlin for a study of the discourse of “racial defilement,” myths of purity, and the legitimation of extermination. She completed her habilitation at the University of Göttingen in 2010 with a history of colonial knowledge. She became a professor of modern European history at FernUniversität in Hagen. Her publications include “Verbote und Geheimnisse. Das Tabu und die Genese der europäischen Moderne” (2011).
