Wolfgang Kraus (born 1955) is a theologian and New Testament scholar. After studying Protestant theology, he served as a vicar and pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria from 1980 to 1990. He received his doctorate in Erlangen in 1990 and completed his habilitation there in 1994. He subsequently taught at the universities of Erlangen, Koblenz-Landau and, from 2004 to 2021, Saarland, where he was Professor of New Testament. He became professor emeritus in 2021. His research included the Septuagint. He co-edited “Septuaginta Deutsch,” “Mehr als Steine,” and the “Handbook of the Septuagint.” In 2014 he received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, and in 2021 the Freiherr Wilhelm von Pechmann Honorary Prize of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria.
