Wolfgang Joop (born 18 November 1944 in Potsdam) is a German fashion designer, author and artist. After beginning his career as a fashion illustrator and freelance designer, he achieved an international breakthrough in 1978 with a fur collection. In 1981, he founded the JOOP! label, which produced women’s and men’s collections, accessories and fragrances. In 1985, he was appointed honorary professor of fashion design at Berlin University of the Arts. Joop founded the fashion label WUNDERKIND in 2003; it was sold in 2017. Alongside his work in fashion, he published books and wrote for publications including Der Spiegel, Stern and Welt am Sonntag. His drawings, paintings and sculptures have been exhibited publicly, including at the 2011 Venice Biennale, where his exhibition “Eternal Love” was presented.
