Wolfgang Hagen (born 1950) studied German and philosophy in Vienna and Berlin. From 1970 to 1972, he worked for Merve Verlag in Berlin and received his doctorate in 1977. He began his broadcasting career in 1978 as a cultural editor at Radio Bremen. He later worked at Sender Freies Berlin as an editor and presenter of the program “SFBeat.” From 1985 to 2002, he held various editorial, management, and presenting roles at Radio Bremen, including founding and directing Radio Bremen Vier. He completed his habilitation at the University of Basel in 2001. From 2002 to 2012, he headed the cultural and music departments as well as media research at Deutschlandradio Kultur. In 2013, he became a professor of media studies at Leuphana University Lüneburg. His publications include works on the history and theory of radio, computers, and photography.
