Paul Virilio (1932–2018) was a French philosopher, media critic, architect, and writer. He founded the École Spéciale d’Architecture, where he also served as director of studies. His work focused particularly on war, technology, media, and acceleration. His notable books include Krieg und Kino (1986), Der negative Horizont (1989), Rasender Stillstand (1992), Bunkerarchäologie (1992), Krieg und Fernsehen (1993), Fluchtgeschwindigkeit (1996), and Information und Apokalypse (2000).
