Wiebke Meier, born in 1950, studied German, history, and geography in Bochum, Munich, and Hamburg. She translated works by, among others, Ian Buruma, Robert Darnton, Philippe Descola, Robert B. Pippin, René Girard, George Steiner, and Helen Vendler, as well as poetry and prose by Jonathan Galassi, Charles Simic, and Mark Strand. In 2017, she received the Paul Scheerbart Prize for her translation of Charles Simic’s poetry collection “Picknick in der Nacht” (“Picnic in the Night”).
