Volker Kutscher

Volker Kutscher (born 1962) studied German, philosophy and history. He subsequently worked as a daily newspaper editor and screenwriter before writing his first crime novel. His 2007 debut, “Der nasse Fisch,” launched a series about Detective Gereon Rath in 1920s and 1930s Berlin and became a bestseller. The series served as the basis for the international television production “Babylon Berlin,” produced by Tom Tykwer. Kutscher also wrote the Kat Menschik-illustrated stories “Moabit” and “Mitte,” set in the Gereon Rath universe; both became bestsellers.
