Uwe Kolbe

Uwe Kolbe, born in East Berlin in 1957, is a German poet, prose writer, and translator. His literary debut was published in 1980, and he worked as a freelance writer from the late 1970s onward. In 1989 he was a visiting writer at the University of Texas at Austin; from 1997 to 2004 he directed the university’s Studio Literatur und Theater in Tübingen. His works include the novel “Die Lüge,” the essay “Brecht. Rollenmodell eines Dichters,” and the poetry collections “Lietzenlieder,” “Gegenreden,” and “Psalmen.” His honors include a Villa Massimo fellowship, the Friedrich Hölderlin Prize, the Prize of the Literature Houses, the Heinrich Mann Prize, the Meran Poetry Prize, and the Reiner Kunze Prize.
