Georgi Gospodinov, born in 1968 in Yambol, Bulgaria, is a Bulgarian writer. He studied Bulgarian philology in Sofia and made his debut in 1992 with the poetry collection “Lapidarium”. He has published poetry, short stories, essays, screenplays and a graphic novel. He gained international recognition with the novels “Natural Novel” (1999) and “The Physics of Sorrow”, which have been translated into more than twenty languages. He received the International Booker Prize in 2023 for “Time Shelter”. His other distinctions include the Bulgarian Book Award, which he has received twice, and the Jan Michalski Prize. Gospodinov has also been a guest author in the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program, a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin and a Siegfried Unseld Visiting Professor at Humboldt University.
