Thomas Luckmann (1927–2016) was a German sociologist and professor of sociology at the University of Konstanz, where he taught from 1970 until his emeritus retirement in 1994. His major works include The Social Construction of Reality, co-authored with Peter L. Berger, The Invisible Religion, Structures of the Life-World, and Theory of Social Action. In Structures of the Life-World, Luckmann further developed approaches to a phenomenologically grounded social theory based on the work of Alfred Schütz. Manuscripts of his work are archived at the University of Konstanz.
