Ernst von Kardorff (born 1950 in Traunstein, Germany) studied sociology and psychology in Munich. He was a professor of sociology at the Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences at Humboldt University of Berlin. His academic work focused on coping with chronic illness, social support, the role of family members in rehabilitation and care, the occupational biographies of people with disabilities, services for older people, community psychiatric care, self-help, and qualitative research.
