Sylvain Tesson, born in Paris in 1972, is a writer, geographer, filmmaker, and journalist. He is known for travel writing and essays based on experiences including a bicycle journey around the world and expeditions through the Himalayas and Central Asia. He spent six months alone in a cabin on Lake Baikal, an experience described in »In the Forests of Siberia«. His travel writing and essays received the Prix Goncourt de la nouvelle in 2009 and the Prix Médicis in 2011. He was awarded the Prix Renaudot for »The Snow Leopard«. His other works include »On Forgotten Paths« and »White«.
