Holger Fock

Holger Fock (born 1958 in Ludwigsburg, Germany) studied theatre studies, German studies and philosophy. He began translating French fiction and nonfiction into German in 1983, often working together with Sabine Müller. Authors translated by Fock include Pierre Michon, Antoine Volodine, Cécile Wajsbrot, Andreï Makine, Patrick Deville and Mathias Énard. From 2009 to 2017, he served on the Honorarium and Negotiation Commission of the Association of German-Language Translators, and from 2014 to 2017 he was president of the European Council of Literary Translators’ Associations (CEATL). His awards include the 2008 advancement prize of the European Translator’s Prize in Offenburg, the 2011 Eugen Helmlé Translator’s Prize, shared with Sabine Müller, and the 2015 Prix lémanique de la traduction. In 2023, the two translators received the International Literature Prize of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt and the Paul Celan Prize.
