Shimon Gesundheit was born in 1961. He studied in the Department of Bible at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he received his doctorate in 2000. In 2001, he completed postdoctoral studies in the Department of Near Eastern Civilizations and Languages at Harvard University. From 2002 onward, he taught at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
