Richard Engl studied medicine, history, German studies, psychology and education in Munich and Pisa. He completed the preliminary medical examination and the First State Examination for teaching. Following research stays at the German Historical Institute in Rome, he received his doctorate in 2014. From 2008, he worked as a research associate in the “Social Dependencies and Social Networks” Cluster of Excellence at Trier University. He subsequently served as a research assistant in medieval and modern history and comparative regional history at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. From 2018, he worked as an academic councillor specializing in the history of the Early and High Middle Ages at the University of Munich.
