Oskar Jan Tauschinski was born in 1914 in Żabokruki in Galicia (Poland) and died in Vienna in 1993. During the Second World War, he served in the Polish army, was taken prisoner by Germany, and was brought to Vienna as a forced laborer in 1940. In 1944, he was held by the Gestapo for several months because of anti-fascist remarks. He received Austrian citizenship in 1947. Tauschinski wrote novels, short stories, and children’s books, and worked as an editor and translator. His literary work received several awards. His text “Talmi” was published in the Arbeiter-Zeitung in 1952 and appeared in book form for the first time in 1963.
