Nick Harkaway was born in Cornwall in 1972. He studied philosophy, sociology and political science and worked as a screenwriter, blogger and advertising copywriter before and alongside his writing. His debut novel, The Gone-Away World, was published in England in 2009. His work, including The Gone-Away World and The Gone-Away World’s German-listed successor Der goldene Schwarm, received considerable critical attention. In 2012 he won the Oxfam Emerging Writer Prize at the Hay Festival, and his work was shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award and the LA Times Book Prize.
