Michael Schneider

Michael Schneider was born in 1943 in Königsberg, East Prussia. He studied biology in Freiburg and Paris, followed by philosophy, social sciences and religious studies at the Free University of Berlin; in 1974 he received his doctorate for a dissertation on Marx and Freud. Schneider worked as an editor at Klaus Wagenbach Verlag, as a journalist and writer, and as a dramaturg and resident author at the Hessian State Theatre in Wiesbaden. He later taught screenwriting as a professor at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg. His work includes essays, novellas, plays and television scripts; notable titles include “Neurose und Klassenkampf,” “Das Spiegelkabinett” and the novel “Der Traum der Vernunft.” In 1980 he received the ZDF Aspekte Literature Prize. He was also a writer in residence at the University of Warwick and the German House in New York.
