Michael Pauen, born in 1956, studied philosophy in Marburg, Frankfurt am Main and Hamburg and completed his habilitation in 1995. He was a professor of philosophy at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and subsequently taught at Humboldt University of Berlin. His areas of work include philosophy of mind, cultural philosophy and aesthetics. His books include »Dithyrambiker des Untergangs« (1994), »Ästhetik des Ähnlichen« (2001), »Grundprobleme der Philosophie des Geistes« (2001/2005) and »Illusion Freiheit?« (2004). He co-authored »Autonomie. Eine Verteidigung« (2015) with Harald Welzer.
