Meral Ziegler was born in Berlin in 1993 and grew up partly on the outskirts of Hamburg. She won her first poetry slam in 2009, at her debut performance on a houseboat on the Isebek Canal. She went on to win several state championship titles, publish a young adult book, and receive the City of Konstanz’s “Junge Kunst” literary award. Ziegler completed a bachelor’s degree in literature, art and media studies in Konstanz and Vienna.
