Marlen Haushofer

Marlen Haushofer (1920–1970) was an Austrian writer. Born in Frauenstein, Upper Austria, she studied German at the universities of Vienna and Graz. She published her first texts in 1946. Her best-known works include the novels A Handful of Life (1955), The Wall (1963), and The Attic (1969), as well as the novella We Kill Stella (1958). In 1968, she received the Austrian State Prize for Literature. Haushofer died in Vienna in 1970.
