Marie Franzos (1870–1941) was an Austrian translator, women’s rights activist, and librarian. After passing the state examination in French, she taught herself several additional languages, including Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Italian, and Spanish. She became known chiefly for her translations of Scandinavian literature. She also gave lectures and chaired conferences on Scandinavian literature. In 1905, she received the Gold Medal Litteris et Artibus, awarded by King Oscar of Sweden and Norway.
