Marghanita Laski

Marghanita Laski (1915–1988) was a British writer, literary critic and journalist. She studied English at Oxford and initially worked in the fashion industry before beginning to write novels. She published six novels, four biographies, a play, children’s books and numerous short stories. She also wrote book reviews for The Times, worked on screenplays and contributed to the Oxford English Dictionary. Her fiction addressed subjects including class divisions, gender barriers and the social and political tensions of her time. Her works of literary criticism included books on Jane Austen and George Eliot.
