Maja Ueberle-Pfaff, born in Karlsruhe in 1954, studied English, history and film theory in Freiburg, Nottingham and Berkeley. After working as a language teacher and publishing editor, she began working as a freelance literary translator in the early 1990s. She translated fiction, nonfiction and films from English and French into German, including works by Mark Twain, Jules Verne, Alice Walker, Gore Vidal and Karine Tuil. She also wrote nonfiction books and texts for cultural and contemporary-historical publications, and worked as an editor.
