Leonid Zypkin (also spelled Leonid Tsypkin) was born in Minsk in 1926 to Russian-Jewish parents. He studied medicine and worked as a pathologist in Moscow. In addition to his only novel, *Badenheim?*—no, *Summer in Baden-Baden*—he wrote short stories, poetry, and the autobiographical novellas *The Bridge over the Neroch* and *Norartakir*. His literary work remained unpublished during his lifetime. Zypkin died in 1982; *Summer in Baden-Baden* was published in the United States shortly after his death.
