Johannes Birgfeld (born 1971) is a German literary scholar. He studied German and philosophy in Hamburg, London, and Bamberg, and taught in Bamberg, Sewanee, Oxford, and Saarbrücken. He worked in modern German literary studies at Saarland University and initiated the Saarbrücken Poetics Lecture Series for Drama. His research focuses on German-language literature from the seventeenth century to the present, as well as theater history. He has published numerous studies in literary and cultural scholarship, including “Krieg und Aufklärung” (2012, 2 vols.), and has edited volumes on Christian Kracht and Rimini Protokoll.
