Gottfried von Einem

Gottfried von Einem (1918–1996) was a composer. He was born in Bern and died in Oberdürnbach, Lower Austria. His professional career included periods in Bayreuth and Dresden. From 1946 onward, he lived and worked in Austria. At the Salzburg Festival, he was a member of the directorate from 1948 to 1951 and chaired the festival’s artistic council from 1955 onward.
