Giacomo Leopardi (1798–1837) was born in Recanati and died in Naples. He was a poet, essayist, and philologist. Raised in an aristocratic and strictly Catholic family, he developed a pessimistic worldview early in life, which shaped his literary work. One of his most important works is the “Zibaldone,” published long after his death.
