Geoff Dyer (born 1958) is a British writer and journalist. He writes novels, nonfiction and essayistic travel prose. His best-known works include the jazz study *But Beautiful*, the novel *Sex in Venice, Death in Varanasi*, and the book on D. H. Lawrence, *Out of Sheer Rage*. *But Beautiful* received the Somerset Maugham Award. Dyer has also received, among other honors, the Lannan Literary Award, the E. M. Forster Award and the Windham-Campbell Prize for Nonfiction.
