Franz Sedlmeier

Franz Sedlmeier, born in 1954, studied in Eichstätt, Münster and Rome. He was ordained a priest in Eichstätt in 1981 and subsequently worked in pastoral ministry for several years. In 1990 he received his doctorate for a study of central texts in the Book of Ezekiel, and in 1996 he completed his habilitation with a study of the motif of “Jerusalem” in the Psalms. After academic work and a substitute professorship at the University of Mainz, he became Professor of Old Testament Studies at the University of Augsburg in 2000. From 2004 to 2007, he served as dean of its Faculty of Catholic Theology. His research has focused on Ezekiel, the Psalms and the Book of Job, as well as their reception in Judaism and Christianity.
