Didier Eribon

Didier Eribon, born in Reims in 1953, is a French sociologist, author and philosopher. He studied philosophy in Reims and Paris, taught sociology in Amiens, and held visiting professorships at the universities of Berkeley and Princeton. He became known in part for his biography of Michel Foucault. His autobiographical and sociological work Returning to Reims was first published in French in 2009 and appeared in German in 2016. Among his other notable works is Insult: The Making of the Gay Self, regarded as a classic of queer studies. In 2024, Eribon received the Prix de l’Académie de Berlin.
