D. H. Lawrence (1885–1930), whose full name was David Herbert Lawrence, was an English writer and poet. The son of a coal miner and a teacher, he initially worked as a teacher before becoming a freelance writer in 1912. His major novels include *Sons and Lovers*, *The Rainbow*, and *Women in Love*. He became internationally known for the controversial and long-banned novel *Lady Chatterley’s Lover*. Across his novels, short stories, essays, and poetry, Lawrence explored subjects including sexuality, human vitality, and the effects of modernity and industrialization.
