Charles Perrault

Charles Perrault (1628–1703) was a French man of letters and a member of the Académie française. Born in Paris, he also died there. He is best known for his fairy-tale collection “Contes de ma mère l’Oye” (“Tales of Mother Goose”), which helped popularize the genre of fairy tales in France. After studying law, Perrault worked as a lawyer, advised Louis XIV, and later served as superintendent of the royal buildings.
