Bernhard Hartmann

Bernhard Hartmann (born in 1972 in Gerolstein in the Eifel) studied Polish and German studies and works as a translator from Polish. He has translated works by, among others, Tomasz Różycki, Julia Hartwig, Tadeusz Różewicz, Krzysztof Siwczyk, and Hanna Krall. In 2013, he received the Karl Dedecius Prize. His translation of Karolina Kuszyk’s “In den Häusern der anderen” received the Special Prize of the Giant Mountains Literature Prize in 2023 and the Georg Dehio Book Prize in 2024. In 2024, his translation and edited edition of Aurelia Wyleżyńska’s wartime diary, “Über nichts schreiben, als was meine Augen sehen,” was published.
