Anna Karina Birkenstock

Anna Karina Birkenstock, born in Solingen in 1975, trained as a media designer for image and sound with a focus on television design before studying media art at the State University of Design in Karlsruhe. From 2003 onward, she worked as an author and illustrator, particularly of children’s books, and published numerous books with German publishers, some of which appeared in several languages. Her work combined digital and analogue media. By her own account, she was already drawing on anything she could find as a child—including her parents’ white faux-leather sofa, which she decorated with permanent marker.
