Alois Hotschnig, born in Carinthia in 1959, is an Austrian writer. His 1992 novel “Leonardos Hände” received the Anna Seghers Prize. His other works include the novel “Ludwigs Zimmer” (2000) and several collections of stories, including “Im Sitzen läuft es sich besser davon” (2009). Hotschnig received the Erich Fried Prize for “Die Kinder beruhigte das nicht” and the Gert Jonke Prize for his narrative work. Further honors include the Italo Svevo Prize (2002), the Christine Lavant Prize (2022), and the Prize of the Province of Carinthia at the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition (1992). His books have been translated into numerous languages.
