Achille Mbembe

Achille Mbembe (born 1957) is a Cameroonian historian and political philosopher. He is regarded as one of the leading thinkers of postcolonialism. Over the course of his academic career, he taught at Columbia University, the University of California, Berkeley, Yale University, Duke University, and the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. His notable works include *Critique of Black Reason*. He received the Geschwister Scholl Prize for the book in 2015. Other distinctions include the Ernst Bloch Prize (2018) and the Holberg Prize (2024).
