Yoko Ogawa

Born in 1962, Yoko Ogawa is a Japanese writer. Her extensive body of work has received, among other honors, the Akutagawa Prize and the Tanizaki Jun’ichirō Prize; she received the Yomiuri Prize for her novel The Housekeeper and the Professor. The Memory Police was nominated for the National Book Award and shortlisted for the International Booker Prize. Her other notable novels include The Museum of Silence, Swimming with Elephants, and Hotel Iris. Her work on The Memory Police was decisively influenced by her reading of Anne Frank’s diaries.
